Diplomatic Duties

Captain's Log
Supplemental

Diplomatic duty is something every captain has to deal with, every officer is trained for to some degree actually. That said, diplomacy is not my best attribute. We Andorians are much better combatants than diplomats. Humans, Vulcans, Betazoids, they are fine diplomats. I understand all too well why Command was upset that I was forced upon them to be the diplomatic envoy for this mission. I am quite certain they would have preferred somebody like Picard to handle this. The universe it seems has a sense of humor after all, and whatever deity is in control has decided that this puppets strings were to be pulled.

I admit trepidation going into these talks. The Ojnas are a proud people, and from my personal experience with them zealous enough to accept extinction rather than bow to the Tholians. The Tholians for their part have no known reason to want to seek out peace with the Ojnas, and yet both are calling for peace. My tactical thoughts say it is a trap, that both sides are trying to lull the other into a false sense in hoping that their guard will lower enough for some key attack. But what if they do actually want peace?

Sachzny said something in the meeting that has me wondering. The Ojnas have two ruling bodies, a governmental body and a religious body. I seem transfixed upon that information. I calls to mind something from ancient Earth history studies back in my academy days. Humans dealt with a system like this for hundreds of years, and it was chaotic and caused a great deal of death. When the logical part of a government can be overruled by the emotions of the religious or vice versa, you get sticky situations. I need to discuss more about this, gather more information regarding the Ojnas. I don't see any alternative at this point. I will need to speak with Sachzny and perhaps order her to do something that I know will be less than comfortable to her.

Yes, these are the missions that vex me the most.
