Welcome to Starbase Prime

Welcome to the edge of known space.

Starbase Prime, the newly reconstructed Immense-class space-station on the far side of the galaxy.

It's been only a few short years since the collapse of the Borg collective and the capture of a stable warp gate linking the Alpha Quadrant with the Delta quadrant. Unlike the long gone Borg Transwarp network this one gate works all on it's own, allowing ships to travel near instantly across the galaxy.

Now, on the edge of known space, Starbase Prime stands as the first and perhaps most valuable starbase in the vast Delta Quadrant. And perhaps more importantly the station stands as a beacon of hope and law in the power vacuum left after the fall of the Borg.

Starbase Prime is a NOVA based Roll Playing Simulation game set in the world of Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry.

Our focus is on the characters and how they fit in the story, from the day to day to the extreme moments when the heat is on.

Have a look around the site and the station. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you aboard as one of us.

» Answers to questions asked

Posted on Thu Sep 18th, 2014 @ 8:10am by Lieutenant Commander Shiarrael 'Shia' LaPota in General News

Questions of the day (asked by Sky Frost):

1) how many star fleet personnel are on this station?

Standard Compliment for an Immense-class starbase:
Officers: 375
Enlisted: 2700
Marines: 200

Starbase Prime has more than standard compliment in Marines and (Marine and Starfleet Naval) starfighter pilots, along with crews of attached starships, such as the Brazen-class USS Ronin. Some key positions are currently vacant, tell your friends!

2) how many non-fleet personnel are on this station?

Standard Compliment for an Immense-class starbase:
Civilians: Up to 6500

Starbase Prime hasn't maxed out on its civilian complement yet, but more are arriving every day. Take a stroll through the Promenade and see the sights! And do some shopping. And eat lunch, too.

3) is the station stationary or does it have warp capability?

Starbase Prime is nominally stationary, but it does have thrusters for limited mobility if necessary. The Acting XO is an experienced engineer and knows how to modify the station's warp power system to propel the starbase at very low warp, say about 1.3 max. Stopping can be difficult, but if you go to the trouble of jury-rigging things to make a starbase warp capable, you're usually in dire need of outrunning someone or something!

4) is the station in orbit around a star and/or are there any planets nearby?

No and no, but there is a stable wormhole nearby, which is why Starbase Prime is where it is.

5) is the station used as a trade transit hub between locals here and the federation?

Yes, besides guarding the wormhole, diplomacy and trade are its primary reasons for being here.

6) is there a primary culture/race resident near the stations location?

There are several races in numerous systems within relatively easy reach of a high warp capable starship, including a system controlled by the Hirogen. In addition, Mantis One will be the site of a fledgling Federation colony where farmers will grow food, which is in short supply in this sector. Even the Hirogen grow their own food, using 'lesser prey' as slave labor, of course.

Pity the Arcolians, who are excellent farmers but chafe under harsh Hirogen taskmasters. If only someone could liberate them... Unfortunately, the USS Ronin is on a purely scientific mission at the moment and any rumors of an imminent Arcolian rescue attempt should be considered strictly wild rumor only and not to be given any credence whatsoever.

Remember, the only stupid questions are the ones that should be asked, but aren't! Special thanks to Sky Frost for his good questions!

Welcome aboard to a trio of new simmers!

Lieutenant JG Sky Frost has reported aboard as our resident Biologist. Although he is human, he is 350+ years young, but he doesn't look a day over 25 or so, thanks to a few hundred years sleep in a crude coldsleep capsule. When not on duty, you can probably find him skating on the Promenade.

Kevat Shan is an Andorian shop owner who has just set up shop on the Promenade, selling military artifacts, not toys, thank you very much. Ask him about Ushaan, if you dare. (Hint: Ushaan is a crucial part of Andorian tradition, a code of honor demanding a duel to the death in which the combatants fought against each other with an ice miner's tool, the ushaan-tor, while tethered to each other.) Double dog dare you to try to skate by or through him on the Promenade! Ask Sky about his attempt to do that.

Mike Josey PhD. is retired from Starfleet and has taken a post aboard the station as Librarian. He is a person who tells stories of the distant past and more. He may also act as a backup teacher, babysitter or anything else that may be needed of him. Odds are that Yazar Dragon, daughter of Ewan Dragon and T'para Dragon, will be making his acquaintance sooner rather than later.

Once again, welcome aboard to our newest simmers!

Hello Everyone,

Lt ALine feels that he has been wrongly treated. So the good Lt has left the sim, but the character played by Lt Aline is now being played as an NPC by me.

If you have a friend or another person who would like to sim with us I am looking for people who really want to be here and not threaten me with leaving to get their way.

We are all men and women old enough to make our own way. Lets just have some fun.

And get along.

The Captain

Hello, everyone.

Its your Captain speaking. Please help me in welcoming Marine Major Lana Hunter to our sim. She is a joined Trill with loads of experience and I hope we get the opportunity to log some amazing missions together.

Let's see if I understand the process well enough to explain it. :-)

On the Write Private Message page, there is a horizontal tool bar between the word "Message" and the message text block, with an icon depicting a picture near the right end. Hovering the mouse arrow over it reveals "Picture [Ctrl+P]" and clicking on it opens a small pop-up window. The new pop-up is labelled "Source" and includes an area to enter text, with "http://" already in it.

So, using another tab or window in my browser, I go to http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Barash as an example, I find a picture that I want to imbed and right click on it, revealing a drop down list where I click on Copy Image Location to save the data: http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140304184859/memoryalpha/en/images/thumb/7/7a/Barash.jpg/292px-Barash.jpg.

I insert that data via copy & paste into the text area within the pop-up, overwriting the original "http://" (Not overwriting it leads to "http://http://" at the head of the URL, which won't work properly, I speak from experience! Trial & error, to be sure.

Once I enter the data and click on OK, an alternative text window opens, which allows me to add alternative text (such as a name for or description of the picture). I used "Barash" and clicked OK again, creating an "img arc" block of text in the draft message.

The imbedding process apparently reformats the size of the image, in this case 292px becomes 434px, and the alternative text is tacked on at the end, but otherwise the data seems unaffected.

So the URL in the imbed looks like: http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140304184859/memoryalpha/en/images/thumb/7/7a/Barash.jpg/434px-Barash.jpg and we get a picture of Barash imbedded in the message:

Barash

I can add other pictures by clicking on the picture icon and repeating the process:
