Awarded to members of Starfleet and the Starfleet Marine Corps, who distinguish themselves by a conspicuous act of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of their life in actual combat, above and beyond the call of duty, while engaged in armed conflict with an enemy of the United Federation of Planets, in which the United Federation of Planets is not an aggressor party. Qualification/Acquirement Difficulty: 11 - Performance of duties must be extraordinary and render the individual substantially conspicuous among others of equal grade, rate, experience, or position of responsibility. Performance merely exceptional to the grade, branch, specialty or assignment, and experience of an individual are NOT an adequate basis for this award. Members must be in good standing. Additional Information: Also known as, the Starfleet Medal of Honor, by tradition, the President of the United Federation of Planets presents this medal, and it is the only neck order award of Starfleet. Recently, due to the nature of its requirements, an increase in posthumous award and presentation to the surviving family of recipients has occurred. Of note, one known, living recipient was Captain James T. Kirk. Candidates for this award must be pre-approved by the senior admiralty.

Awarded to members of Starfleet and the Starfleet Marine Corps, in recognition of remarkable leadership, meritorious conduct and acts of personal bravery. Qualification/Acquirement Difficulty: 8 - Performance of duties must be remarkable and render the individual highly conspicuous among others of equal grade, rate, experience, or position of responsibility. Performance merely superior to the grade, branch, specialty or assignment, and experience of an individual are NOT an adequate basis for this award. Members must be in good standing. Additional Information: An accumulation of isolated acts of heroism may justify an award of the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor. Purple Heart Purple Heart
Members of Starfleet and the Starfleet Marine Corps are entitled to an award of the Purple Heart upon receiving wounds, suffering death, or death subsequent to wounds received in actual combat or the result of enemy action, while engaged in armed conflict with an enemy of the United Federation of Planets, in which the United Federation of Planets is not an aggressor party. Qualification/Acquirement Difficulty: 1 - Performance of duties NOT a factor, so long as the individual was actively participating in military operations at the time of injury. Additional Information: Combat is not required, so long as the injury is caused by enemy action. One Purple Heart authorized per single incident, even if multiple wounds were received at the same time. Injuries which justify award of the Purple Heart are: injury caused by enemy phaser, disruptor or other energy weapon discharge; bullet, shrapnel, or other projectile created by enemy action; injury caused by enemy placed land mine, naval mine, or trap; injury caused by enemy released chemical, biological, or nuclear agent; injury caused by vehicle or aircraft accident resulting from enemy fire; concussion injuries caused as a result of enemy generated explosions. Injuries or wounds which do not qualify for award of the Purple Heart include: frostbite or trench foot injuries; heat stroke; food poisoning not caused by enemy agents; chemical, biological, or nuclear agents not released by the enemy; battle fatigue; disease not directly caused by enemy agents; accidents, to include explosive, aircraft, vehicular, and other accidental wounding not related to or caused by enemy action; self-inflicted wounds, except when in the heat of battle, and not involving gross negligence; post-traumatic stress disorders; and jump injuries not caused by enemy action. Awarded to members of Starfleet and the Starfleet Marine Corps, and citizens of the Untied Federation of Planets, who were taken prisoner or held captive, during engagement in armed conflict with an enemy of the United Federation of Planets, in which the United Federation of Planets is not an aggressor party. Qualification/Acquirement Difficulty: 2 - Conduct while in captivity must be honorable. Additional Information: Hostages of terrorists and persons detained by governments with which the United Federation of Planets is not actively engaged in armed conflict, are NOT eligible. This medal may be awarded posthumously to the surviving next of kin of the recipient. Candidates for this award must be pre-approved by the senior admiralty.

Additional Information: Award may recognize single acts of merit or heroism, or meritorious service. It is intended to recognize those personnel who are on current crewmember or non-crew member flying status which requires them to participate in aerial/space flight on a regular and frequent basis in the performance of their primary duties. However, it may also be awarded to certain other individuals whose combat duties require regular and frequent flying in other than a passenger status, or individuals who perform a particularly noteworthy act while performing the function of a crewmember but who are not on flying status. These individuals must make a discernible contribution to the operational mission or to the mission of the craft in flight. Candidates for this award must be pre-approved by the senior admiralty.
